Mother's Co-Op at HPPC gives parents of young children a wonderful opportunity to participate in a program that not only provides their child with a positive and nurturing group experience but also guides parents in how to be their child's primary teacher.  With the emphasis being on Bible stories and nurturing spiritual growth, Mother's Co-Op encourages growth in social, emotional, and intellectual skills.  Attention to pre-reading, writing, and math skills is taken while the day's activities are coordinated to be developmentally appropriate for each age group.  The morning two year old classes have one teacher and two parents while the afternoon three year old and pre-k classes have two teachers with one parent helping, which provides a high amount if individual attention by the teachers to the children.

GOALS
The Mother's Co-Op Program began in the fall of 1972 with a group of ten children between the ages of two and three.  The mothers cooperated with each other in leading the children to explore, experiment and experience God's created world and His relationship to it.  Since that time, Mother's Co-Op has offered at least eight classes each year with teachers who provide the structure and curriculum for each class.

Our goals are to provide a training ground for Christian parenting and teaching and to create an environment where the parent and child can nurture the skills that lead to competency and a positive self-image.

These goals provide an opportunity for each child to develop trust in other people in a group situation so that he or she may ultimately grow into a mature faith in God through Jesus Christ.  Mother's Co-Op is a part of the Early Childhood Ministry of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, a ministry that has the purpose of creating a welcoming and safe environment where preschool children will feel loved while they are provided with a well-rounded Christian education.

ATTENDANCE
Since one of the goals of the Mother's Co-Op Program is to provide a time for parent and child to spend quality time together and share in the discovery of God's world, every mother is asked to commit to working a specific number of times each semester.  Mothers (or fathers) are expected to be an active part of the teaching team and to attend all parties and field trips.  It is therefore required that one of the parents and not a maid or nanny assume this responsibility.

CHILD CARE
When helping in the classroom, Child Care is available for you other children who are not yet in first grade with at least a 48-HOUR ADVANCE RESERVATION.

REGISTRATION
Registration is open to children who are 2, 3, or 4 years old by September 1, 2010.  Registrations will be mailed to church members on January 8, 2010, and to non-members on January 22, 2010.
